What are ASbAs?

An ASbA is an Australian School-based Apprenticeship.

Australian School-based Apprentices undertake their Australian Apprenticeships during Years 10, 11 and 12 allowing students to gain a vocational qualification while continuing school studies. ASbAs are a mixture of academic and vocational education and training, and paid employment. ASbAs provide students with valuable employment skills and hands-on industry experience, leading to the achievement of a nationally recognised qualification.

The basics:

  • Attend school as usual
  • Minimum of one day a week spent in a workplace
  • Wages paid for hours worked
  • Participate in training at work, off-the-job at a Registered Training Organisation or at your school
  • Will usually take 18-24 months to complete
  • Achievement of a nationally recognised qualification
